Tips & Tricks for Running Your First Half Marathon

Tips on Your First Half Marathon

If you're thinking about running a marathon, but want to take a slow progression in terms of distance. Then half marathons are a good start for marathon training. Half marathons are 13.1 miles races that include hills, roads, and different terrain. Now it sounds intimidating at first and I agree, the first time hearing about races other than 5k and 10ks was surprising. But you're in good hands!

Why might you ask, well I want to share some tips to help your first half marathon go well! Without further ado, let’s begin!

Tip #1

-Time Frame

Make sure when you sign up for a half marathon, it’s a couple months before the race. That way, it ensures time for training and helps your body be ready for the race.

Tip #2

-Training Plan

It’s important to figure out how many days you can run and your current endurance level. Do you like to run 1-5 days a week, what time do you prefer to run, the distance you want to run, and how fast you want to run throughout the run.

If you need help looking into a training plan, I recommend using the internet to help you find what you're looking for. I’m not an expert or certified, I’m just giving my tips from experience.

Tip #3

-Sleep schedule

Believe it or not, the quality of your sleep will affect how well your body recovers after a run/workout. Try to keep a consistent sleep schedule and optimally 7-8 hours.

Tip #4

-Shoes

The type of shoe is important because how else are you going to run a half marathon? Running shoe brands don’t matter, as long as your feet are comfortable and giving support. Try to have a pair for training and a separate pair for the race, because you don’t want to run in worn out shoes.

Tip #5

-Stay hydrated

Last thing you want is to be dehydrated during your training or while you run.

Tip #6

-Have fun with it!

Don’t forget all the hard work you’ve put into training before the race. Stay relaxed and pace yourself. Be proud of yourself because not many can say they’ve run a half marathon! Hope this helped you and made your running more enjoyable!
